Expect a beautifully paced journey through Tanzania’s most iconic parks — a blend of game viewing, culture, and surreal scenery. From the elephants of Tarangire and lions of the Serengeti to the flamingos of Lake Natron, each day presents a different side of nature.
This route is ideal for photographers and explorers who crave a mix of wildlife and landscape diversity. The inclusion of Lake Natron gives it a rare twist — remote, raw, and visually stunning.
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive southwest to Tarangire National Park. On arrival, enter the park for an afternoon game drive focusing on the riverine areas and baobab-studded plains where large elephant herds congregate.
As late afternoon approaches, enjoy wildlife viewing in the golden light and then transfer to your lodge or camp near the park for dinner and overnight — an easy, wildlife-rich start to your safari.
Spend a full day exploring Tarangire with morning and afternoon game drives. Look for elephants, large herds of ungulates, predators such as lions and jackals, and abundant birdlife, especially around the Tarangire River.
Midday can be a relaxed picnic or lodge lunch; the guide will target areas with seasonal concentrations of wildlife, providing uninterrupted photographic and viewing opportunities.
After breakfast, depart Tarangire and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. Explore the groundwater forest, lakeshore and open plains in search of tree-climbing lions, hippos, baboons and myriad birds.
In the afternoon, continue the drive across the Ngorongoro highlands toward the Serengeti region, arriving at your lodge or tented camp late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Begin early with a sunrise game drive into the Seronera region of the Serengeti, known for year-round predator activity and good chances of spotting lions, leopards and cheetahs.
Spend the day moving between riverine and open plain habitats, enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, and relax at camp in the evening while recounting the day’s sightings under the stars.
This full day is dedicated to deeper exploration of the Serengeti: extend morning drives into neighboring blocks or follow tracks discovered by your guide to maximize predator and migration sightings (season permitting).
The afternoon is flexible — game drive, rest at camp, or an optional guided nature walk where allowed; return for dinner and overnight at your Serengeti accommodation.
Depart Serengeti after breakfast and head toward Ngorongoro, stopping at Olduvai Gorge en route. Explore the small museum and learn about pivotal hominid discoveries that shaped our understanding of early human history.
Continue to the Ngorongoro crater rim for panoramic views. Overnight at a lodge on the rim to position you for an early descent next morning.
Early descent into Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive on the crater floor — one of the densest wildlife habitats on the continent. Expect sightings of lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and possible encounters with black rhino.
Picnic lunch beside a hippo pool; later ascend to the rim for spectacular photography and return to your crater-rim lodge for dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast, drive north toward Lake Natron, a dramatic shift in landscape to arid volcanic plains dominated by Ol Doinyo Lengai. On arrival, check into camp and then head out late afternoon to view the salt-crusted shores and thousands of lesser flamingos that breed here.
Enjoy a guided walk to scenic viewpoints for sunset photography; dinners are typically simple and locally sourced, with nights under a clear Rift Valley sky.
Optional early morning excursion (e.g., short hike to a waterfall or local Maasai visit) for sunrise views and final photography opportunities. Return to camp for breakfast, then depart for the drive back to Arusha.
Arrive in Arusha in the afternoon for hotel drop-off or transfer to Kilimanjaro/Arusha airport for your onward journey — concluding your Great Northern Discovery.
